INFORMATION REGARDING OUR NEW BOYS INTERMEDIATE (50/70) DIVISION
Dear Parents,
We know the weather is cold, and we’ve had to shovel snow already, but we never stop thinking about baseball! The reason for this email is we have some exciting changes coming up for our 2020 Greater Thumb Little League(GTLL) baseball season that we want you to be aware of.
We as a GTLL board have decided to make a change to our Majors division (12U/ages 11 &12) and go to little leagues “Intermediate Division”. In this division the bases are longer (70’ vs 60’), the pitching mound is farther away (50’ vs 46’), and the base runners can lead off and steal. This gives you that real baseball feel and in our opinion is an advantage for preparing the kids for the next level. As some of you may have noticed there’s work being done to the fields. This work needed to be done to accommodate the longer bases/pitchers’ mounds distances previously mention. All fields will be completed for the upcoming 2020 season.
Other news being discussed:
In closing, the content of this email was to inform you of upcoming changes to the format of the GTLL program. Nothing is really changing regarding what’s needed from you the parent. We as a board have the kids’ best interest in mind, and are willing to listen to any feedback, positive or negative you have for us. We want this to be a great experience for not only them, but you as well. Please keep in mind we are always looking for board members/coaches, so if interested, please contact your towns president for openings. This is a way for you to make a difference.
Thanks for your time.

Other news being discussed:
- Starting the season about 2 weeks later.
- The season would still end as normal, but we hope to get a little better weather to start the season.
- Little League World Series(LLWS) tournament in Bay City/Saginaw
- Towns taking a team to this tournament can pickup kids from another town that isn’t going
- For example, Pigeon decides they are taking a team to the LLWS tournament, but Bad Axe isn’t. Pigeon can ask Bad Axe to sign a waiver to allow players to play with that Pigeon team. If Harbor Beach and Ubly aren’t taking a team either, Pigeon could ask them as well. Obviously, the parents and players have final say if they want to play. This gives us an option to pull players from other town’s, where in the past we didn’t have that option.
- This tournament is in July, so it won’t affect our local all-star teams or tournaments.
- Towns taking a team to this tournament can pickup kids from another town that isn’t going
- At this time, USA has decided to cut ties with GTLL, so our league will consist of Harbor Beach, Ubly, Pigeon, and Bad Axe.
